J. L. Wilson IV

Since joining the firm and the bar in 1997, J.L.’s civil litigation practice has focused on professional liability, governmental liability and insurance defense. He has successfully represented over half of Mississippi’s counties governmental entities and their employees in defending against claims pursued under the Mississippi Workers Compensation Act, the Mississippi Tort Claims Act and 42 U.S.C. §1983 in both state and federal trial and appellate courts. He also defends medical professionals against allegations of professional negligence, many of which are community hospitals covered by the MTCA.  He regularly advises insurers as to their duties to defend and coverage obligations to their insureds under errors and omissions, professional liability and other insurance contracts.

J. L. is admitted to all State and Federal Courts in the State of Mississippi, as well as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals.  He holds an "AV" rating from Martindale-Hubbell®, signifying the highest possible rating for legal ability and ethical standards. He is a member of the Mississippi Bar Association (Bar Commissioner, 4th District, 2008 - 2011) and a fellow of the Mississippi Bar Foundation.  He is also a member of the Leflore County Bar Association, The Mississippi Defense Lawyer's Association (President 2023, Vice President 2019-2022, Board Member 2016-2018 Northern District), and the Defense Research Institute.   

J. L. is a lifelong resident of Mississippi. Originally from Rosedale, he grew up in Greenville and attended college (BBA; 1993) and law school (JD; 1997) at the University of Mississippi in Oxford. In law school, he served as Assistant Editor of Mississippi Cases on The Mississippi Law Journal and on the Moot Court Board.  He has lived in Greenwood since joining the firm upon graduation from law school.  J.L. and his wife Cindy are the proud parents of sons James, Wells and Hilliard. They attend the Episcopal Church of the Nativity. J.L. is an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting with his children, as well as participating in their sports teams and scouting.
