Richard L. Kimmel
Mr. Kimmel was born in Memphis, Tennessee; however is a lifelong resident of Mississippi. Originally from Houston, Mississippi, he grew up in Greenwood and received his undergraduate education at Mississippi State University receiving his Bachelor of Science Degree in Agricultural Economics with a Minor in Business in 1983. His legal education was received at Mississippi College School of Law where he obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1986. While in law school, Mr. Kimmel was a member of Delta Theta Phi, Legal Fraternity where he served as Secretary-Treasurer and President. Mr. Kimmel also served as a Senator on the law school student body. After graduating from Law School in 1986, Mr. Kimmel practiced law in Cleveland, Mississippi until 1995 when he joined the firm. While in Cleveland, Mr. Kimmel was a Member of the Bolivar County Bar Association serving as Secretary, Vice President and President of said Association and served on the Board of Bar Commissioners for the Mississippi Bar from 1992-1995. Since joining the firm and moving to Greenwood, Mr. Kimmel has been a Member of the Leflore County Bar Association. Mr. Kimmel was admitted to the Mississippi Bar in 1987, U.S. District Court, Northern and Southern Districts of Mississippi in 1987, U.S. Court of Appeals, Fifth Circuit in 1987.
Primary Practice Areas
Mr. Kimmel is a commercial rated multi-engine pilot with over 10,000 hours total time of which approximately 6,000 hours is agricultural flying. Mr. Kimmel has a passion for aviation and therefore his primary practice area includes the area of insurance aviation defense. Mr. Kimmel has been admitted in over 10 states in his aviation practice. Mr. Kimmel also practices in areas of commercial litigation, general tort litigation, products liability, premises liability, automobile liability and trucking cases.
Mr. Kimmel has conducted numerous programs and continuing education classes on aviation issues and general tort litigation. Mr. Kimmel is a member of the Lawyer Pilots Bar Association, National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) Bar Association, Panel Attorney for Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), Defense Research Institute, Mississippi Defense Lawyers Association, American Board of Trial Advocates (ABOTA), and a member of the Eagle Society issued by the Aviation Insurance Association.
